Murrayfield Parish Church, Edinburgh, Scotland
In December 2004 a Partnership Agreement was signed in Edinburgh between the Community of Kwamebikrom in the Western Region of Ghana and Murrayfield Parish Church in Edinburgh, Scotland. The signing of this partnership was the culmination of a series of events that commenced with an exploratory visit to the Western Region by three members of Murrayfield Parish Church in 1997, and included a group from Murrayfield being guests of honour at the opening of a Health Clinic in Kwamebikrom in October 1999.
The first video in the Murrayfield World Without Walls series describes how Murrayfield Congregation wished to celebrate it’s own Centenary by developing a Christian Mission Project overseas. The opening of the clinic was a significant step along a road that has continued to the present day far surpassing all our previous expectations.
Since 1999 regular visits to Kwamebikrom by groups from the Congregation have taken place on a biannual basis and reciprocal visits have been made to Edinburgh by Community, Church and Health Care Staff from Ghana. The relationship has developed utilising the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s expertise in hospital and primary care administration, through their Headquarter’s staff and locally through the Ashante Presbytery Regional Structure.
It is intended that the regular videos to be shown over the coming months on this website will demonstrate how the partnership has developed since 1999. The school to school link between Roseburn Primary School in Edinburgh and a Primary School in Kwamebikrom has been strengthened by reciprocal teacher visits and the use of a Library for Community Educational learning programmes will be highlighted in a later video.
So watch this space for regular updates on the partnership progress.
