  • Kirkton Church, Carluke

Kirkton Church has been around since 1832 and we are a church with a long tradition…. a tradition of change. We’ve not always been able to change as quickly as some would like but throughout our history the leadership has always seen the need to adapt to changing circumstances. What hasn’t altered, however, is our desire to let people know about the good news of Jesus and the difference he can make in people’s lives.

The relationship between Kirkton Church in Carluke, Scotland and PCEA Kiambaa Church in Kiambaa, Kenya, had its origins in a visit to Carluke by Rev. Dr. David Githii, at that time minister at Kiambaa. A partnership was then entered into after the Kirkton Church minister, Rev. Iain Cunningham, visited Kiambaa in 2002 with one of the church elders, Ian Paterson. In 2005 six people from Kirkton Church visited Kiambaa and installed a number of computers in the church centre and local secondary school and a group called “Friends of Kenya” was set up in Kirkton Church to encourage ongoing links between the two congregations and other projects in Kenya supported by Kirkton Church. Youth Organisations from the two churches regularly correspond.
Now the World Without Walls project provides us with a really exciting way of keeping in touch with each other and enabling a wider people in both congregations to see something of the way of life of their sister church.

We have a special privilege in Carluke of enjoying really good working relationships with all the other Christian churches in the town and in fact the three Church of Scotland congregations in Carluke have entered into a special relationship with each other called a “Parish Grouping.”

Call back to our website to see the latest developments. More information on this project will come soon.
