Christ The Rock Ministries, Chennai
Working with Children
One of these programmes is tutoring classes for the poor and neglected slum-dwelling children in the church area. The children typically belong to broken homes or with alcoholic fathers and are unable to have normal study hours at home. With the help of kind volunteers and modestly paid tutors, the programme attracts children who are not part of the church. It is now highly effective, changing the lives of many children in the area. Rajkuman Ignatius coordinates the work from Christ the Rock Ministries and the WwW project.
Working with Women
Sewing classes for needy women and widows was started in 1999 after they received a sewing machine as a gift. This programme has now expanded and they have received seven more sewing machines – reaching more deprived women (many of them the sole breadwinners in the family).
Medical Camps
To create awareness about the harsh realities of those who live in the slum areas, periodic medical camps help detect ailments and treat sickness. Patients receive basic treatment and are given sound advice of the importance of personal and corporate hygiene.
